How It Works

Multi-stage treatment process

Every Hydro Engineering ETP moves wastewater through a series of engineered stages, each removing a specific category of contaminant before the final discharge meets DoE parameters.

01

Screening & Equalisation

Bar screens remove large solids. An equalisation tank buffers flow variations so downstream units receive a consistent load — essential for stable downstream treatment performance.

02

Chemical Coagulation & Flocculation

Coagulants (alum, PAC, ferric chloride) neutralise surface charges on fine particles and aggregate them into large, settleable floc. Polymer aids improve floc structure and settling rate.

03

Primary Clarification

Floc settles in a lamella or tube settler clarifier. Sludge is collected at the base, thickened, and sent to sludge handling. Clarified water advances to biological treatment.

04

Biological Treatment (ASP/SBR)

Aerobic bacteria break down dissolved organic matter (BOD/COD). Activated sludge or sequencing batch reactors are selected and sized to your effluent composition for reliable organic removal.

05

Secondary Clarification

Biological sludge separates from treated water in a secondary settler. Return sludge maintains biomass concentration in the aeration tank; excess sludge is dewatered and disposed of.

06

Tertiary Polishing & Discharge

Sand/multimedia filtration and disinfection (chlorination or UV) bring treated water to DoE discharge limits. Final effluent quality is monitored before safe release to the environment.

Industries

Which industries require an ETP?

Under Bangladesh's Environment Conservation Rules (ECR 1997) and subsequent DoE notifications, all factories generating industrial effluent must treat wastewater before discharge.

Textile & Garments

Dyeing, washing, and finishing lines — colour, BOD, COD, and pH treatment essential for ZDHC compliance.

Leather & Tannery

Heavy metal (chromium), sulphide, and high-strength organic removal for Hazaribagh relocation compliance.

Pharmaceutical

API manufacturing effluent — solvent, active compound, and biological load treatment for DoE and WHO-GMP audits.

Food & Beverage

High BOD/COD from processing lines — biological treatment with grease traps and nutrient removal.

Paper & Pulp

Fibre, colour, and BOD load removal from paper mill effluent.

Chemical Industry

Mixed organic and inorganic contaminant streams requiring custom chemical treatment stages.

Technical Specifications

Design parameters

Parameter Typical Range
Treatment Capacity 50 – 5,000 m³/day
Inlet BOD 200 – 3,000 mg/L
Outlet BOD ≤ 50 mg/L (DoE limit)
Inlet COD 500 – 8,000 mg/L
Outlet COD ≤ 200 mg/L (DoE limit)
Inlet TSS 200 – 2,000 mg/L
Outlet TSS ≤ 100 mg/L (DoE limit)
pH (treated) 6.0 – 9.0
Colour removal Up to 98%

All parameters subject to site-specific design. Hydro Engineering Solutions engineers each system from a full inlet characterisation study.

Why Hydro Engineering Solutions

Engineering certainty, not just equipment

Site-specific design

We start from an inlet water analysis and site survey — every system is sized to your actual process load, not a catalogue specification.

DoE approval support

We prepare the full documentation package — process flow diagrams, design drawings, test reports, and operational manuals — and support you through inspection.

Construction supervision

Our engineers oversee civil works, equipment installation, and commissioning to ensure the built system matches the approved design.

AMC maintenance

Annual maintenance contracts cover scheduled servicing, reagent restocking, membrane replacement, and emergency response for the life of your plant.
