How It Works
Multi-stage sewage treatment process
Each STP is designed around your facility's population equivalent, hydraulic load, and site constraints — ensuring stable, compliant discharge from day one of commissioning.
Preliminary Treatment
Coarse and fine screens remove solids, rags, and grit that would damage downstream equipment. A grit chamber separates inorganic material before the sewage enters primary treatment.
Primary Settling
Sewage flows into a primary clarifier where settleable solids separate under gravity, forming primary sludge. This stage removes 50–70% of suspended solids and 25–40% of BOD before biological treatment.
Biological Treatment
Aerobic microorganisms break down dissolved organic matter. Technology selection — ASP, SBR, MBBR, or UASB — is matched to your capacity, footprint, and treated-water reuse requirements.
Secondary Clarification
Biological sludge is separated in a secondary settler. Return activated sludge (RAS) maintains biomass concentration; waste activated sludge (WAS) is sent to sludge handling.
Tertiary Treatment
Sand filtration, activated carbon, or membrane polishing removes residual turbidity and pathogens. Disinfection (UV or chlorination) brings treated effluent to safe discharge or irrigation reuse standards.
Sludge Dewatering
Sludge from primary and secondary stages is thickened, dewatered by filter press or centrifuge, and disposed of or composted in accordance with DoE waste management regulations.
Applications
Where STP is required
Bangladesh building regulations require STP installation in residential buildings above a certain floor count, all commercial developments, and any facility discharging to a municipal drain or water body.
High-rise Residential
Apartment complexes and condominiums where municipal sewer connection is unavailable or insufficient for the population load.
Commercial Complexes
Shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, and office towers requiring compliant sewage management under Rajuk and DoE permits.
Industrial Campuses
Factory townships, export processing zones, and industrial parks generating domestic sewage alongside process effluent.
Municipal Schemes
WASA and city corporation sewage treatment schemes serving residential and mixed-use zones under government infrastructure programmes.
Educational Institutions
Universities, schools, and residential campuses requiring integrated sewage management for large student populations.
Healthcare Facilities
Hospitals and clinics where sewage contains pathogens and pharmaceutical residuals requiring enhanced disinfection treatment.

Why Hydro Engineering Solutions
Engineering built for Bangladesh's compliance landscape
Rajuk & DoE documentation
We prepare the full regulatory package including process design drawings, environmental impact assessments, and operational manuals for permit approval.
Compact footprint options
Where basement or rooftop space is limited, we engineer MBBR-based systems that achieve the same treatment performance in a fraction of the conventional plant area.
Treated water reuse design
Our STP designs can incorporate a treated water reuse circuit for toilet flushing or irrigation — reducing potable water consumption and operating costs.
O&M training included
We train your facility management team to operate and maintain the STP competently — reducing your dependence on expensive third-party operators.
